Twelve paramedics have been fatally struck in an Israeli aerial bombardment in Lebanon. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of these healthcare personnel.
In an X post on Saturday, the WHO Director-General disclosed that the aerial assault on a civilian defense center in Douris village, Baalbek district of Lebanon, resulted in the deaths of twelve paramedics. The facility sustained substantial damage in the attack.
WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote that attacks on healthcare facilities during conflicts have become the ‘new normal.’ He emphasized that this must cease—universally.
Israel has been conducting extensive military operations in Lebanon since the commencement of the all-out war in Gaza, Palestine, on October 7 last year. For over a month now, Israeli forces have been executing intensified and systematic offensives against the Lebanese armed organization Hezbollah, including ground incursions.”
