U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, Monday. The White House stated this phone call between the two leaders yesterday, published on the White House website.

The statement says,

“Biden discussed Modi’s recent visits to Poland and Ukraine. He also talked with Modi about the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meeting in September.”

The White House statement says,

“Biden praised the Indian Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine. This was the first time an Indian Prime Minister made such a visit in decades. Biden commended Modi’s message regarding ongoing humanitarian aid for Ukraine, including in the areas of peace and energy. The statement mentions that during the phone call, the two leaders reaffirmed their continued support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with international law based on the UN Charter.”

The statement further says,

“The two leaders emphasized their ongoing commitment to working together through regional alliances such as the Quad to play a role in peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Modi posted about the phone call with Biden on his X handle (formerly Twitter) last night. He wrote,

“Had a good conversation with President Biden. We exchanged views on a wide range of global and regional issues, including the situation in Ukraine.”

Modi further wrote,

“We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh. We emphasized the need to quickly restore normalcy in the country. We also discussed ensuring the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus.”

However, the White House statement on Biden’s phone call with Modi did not mention anything about the Bangladesh issue.
