Iran has banned communication devices such as pagers and walkie-talkies on airplanes. This information was reported in local media yesterday, Saturday.
Recently, a deadly pager and walkie-talkie explosion occurred in Lebanon. Israel was blamed for this sabotage explosion. Iran made this decision a few weeks after the incident.
Citing Jafar Yazerlou, spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, the country’s news agency ISNA reported that entry into aircraft with any type of electronic communication device except mobile phones has been prohibited.
About three weeks ago, an explosion occurred in pagers and walkie-talkies used by members of Hezbollah, an Iran-backed political and armed group in Lebanon. At least 39 people were killed in this incident. Nearly three thousand people were injured, including Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amini.
The attack targeted Hezbollah members. Hezbollah and Iran blame Israel for this attack. Three weeks after the attack, Iran banned these two types of communication devices on all types of aircraft.
Earlier this month, Dubai-based airline Emirates banned pagers and walkie-talkies on their aircraft.
Regional tensions in the Middle East have been escalating since the Gaza war began last October. This has involved Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
In recent weeks, several airlines have suspended flights to Iran. Iran launched a missile attack on Israel on October 1. After that, various airlines decided to avoid the risk.
On October 1, Iran fired nearly 200 missiles targeting Israel. Tehran carried out this attack in retaliation for the killing of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general and leaders of Iran-backed groups in the region.
Israel has vowed to retaliate against Iran’s attack. The country’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the response to this attack would be deadly, precise, and surprising.
