Israel has finalized plans to retaliate against Iran’s missile attacks. CNN reported this information today, Wednesday, citing a relevant source. However, the source did not provide details.
CNN contacted Israel’s Defense Ministry regarding this matter, but the report did not mention the ministry’s response.
The source reveals that Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have assured the United States that instead of targeting oil and nuclear facilities, they might conduct limited strikes on Iranian military installations.
Citing multiple U.S. sources, CNN further reported that Israel might strike Iran before the U.S. presidential election on November 5. American officials believe this attack could happen this month.
For context, Iran launched approximately 200 missiles at Israel on October 1. Tehran claimed this attack was in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas political wing chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Since then, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has been warning that Iran will face consequences for the attack. Last week, the country’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel’s strike on Iran would be “deadly, precise, and surprising.”
Meanwhile, according to Al Jazeera’s report, Iran has warned of a harsh response if Israel conducts retaliatory strikes. In a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is prepared to give a “harsh and painful” response if Israel attacks his country.
Mayor Killed in Lebanon Attack
Amid tensions over Iran’s attack, Israel has increased strikes on Gaza and Lebanon. Today, Israel struck the municipal building in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh. The attack killed five people, including the city’s mayor Ahmad Kahil. Among the deceased was also Mohammad Salim Bitar, the municipality’s media officer.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah is responding to Israeli attacks with rocket fire, particularly targeting the country’s northern region. Multiple rocket launches occurred, including 90 rockets fired at 9 PM local time yesterday, Tuesday.
Israeli forces report that at least one rocket from Lebanon hit the ground in the northern city of Haifa. However, no casualties were reported from this incident. The previous day, 115 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel.
