Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow and Tehran’s positions against the West are often ‘very close’.
On Friday (October 11), a meeting between the Russian President and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took place on the sidelines of a conference of the regional alliance of Asian countries in Turkmenistan. Putin made this comment while discussing the situation in the Middle East during the meeting. This information was reported by the Russian state media TASS.
In the meeting, Putin said that Moscow and Tehran’s positions against the West are ‘very close’. We will prioritize Russia’s relationship with Iran. Iran is developing itself very successfully.
He further said that a ‘new world order’ needs to be created for Moscow’s allies in facing the West. Moreover, Moscow supports the ‘possibly most extensive international discussion’ on the emerging multipolar world. Various forums including the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS are open to them.
Iranian President Pezeshkian informed that the Russian President has invited me to the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) summit to be held in Russia on October 22-24 this year. A strategic partnership agreement between the two countries could be finalized for signing at the summit. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and leaders from Central Asian countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, along with other regional leaders, participated in the conference.
He also said that economically and culturally, our connection with Russia is getting stronger day by day and will become even stronger. This information was reported by the Iranian news agency IRNA.
During this time, regarding Israel’s attack on Lebanon, Pezeshkian said that Israel should stop killing innocent people in this region. The United States and Europe should accuse Israel for its actions.
Since Moscow invaded Ukraine in 2022, relations between Russia and Iran have begun to strengthen significantly. The United States has accused Iran of supplying weapons to Russia for the attack on Ukraine. Tehran has denied that claim.
