The Western countries are actually playing with fire. Russia warned the United States yesterday, Tuesday, that if a Third World War starts, it will not be limited to Europe.
Since August 6, the Ukrainian army has attacked the western Kursk region of Russia and occupied a part of that area. This is the largest attack by a foreign force on Russian territory since World War II. President Vladimir Putin said,
‘Russia will respond appropriately.’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said,
‘It was not right for the West to consider Kyiv’s request to relax the ban on using foreign-supplied weapons. By doing this, they are trying to expand the scope of the war and ‘take on danger.’
Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022. Since then, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned,
‘If the world’s major nuclear powers get involved, this war risks taking on a larger scale.’
However, he said,
‘Russia does not want to get into a war with NATO, the US-led military alliance.’
At a press conference in Moscow yesterday, Lavrov said,
‘We once again confirm that playing with fire, as small children play with matchboxes, is very dangerous for adult uncles and aunts.’
He further said,
‘Americans view any talk of World War III controversially in the context of damage to Europe. That is, they think, God forbid if this happens, only Europe will suffer the consequences.’
He also mentioned that Russia has already clarified its nuclear policy (doctrine).
Russia’s 2020 nuclear policy clearly states when the President will consider using nuclear weapons. Broadly, when the country is attacked with nuclear or weapons of mass destruction, when the country’s existence is threatened.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier this month that the attack on Russia’s Kursk region has shown that the Kremlin’s threat of retaliation is actually a bluff.
He also said that due to restrictions imposed by allies, Ukraine cannot use weapons to strike some Russian military targets. Zelensky also called on allies to be more courageous in deciding how to help Kyiv in the war.
Russia has said that Ukraine is using Western-supplied weapons, including British tanks and US rocket systems, in operations in the Kursk region. Kyiv has confirmed the use of US HIMARS missiles to blow up a bridge in Kursk.
Washington has said that they had no information about Ukraine’s sudden operation plans in the Kursk region. The United States has also stated that it is not involved in this operation in any way.
Russia refuses to accept this claim of the United States. Putin’s foreign intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin said yesterday,
‘Moscow does not believe the West’s claim of having no involvement in the Kursk attack.’
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said,
‘The United States is ‘certainly’ involved.’
