Three suspects have been detained in connection with a bomb attack targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in the city of Caesarea. The arrests were executed today, Sunday.
Two flash bombs were launched at Netanyahu’s residence on Saturday evening. Neither the Prime Minister nor any family members were present at the premises during the incident. Law enforcement authorities reported no structural damage in their official statement.
The projectiles were identified as flash bombs, ordinarily deployed from military aircraft (particularly reconnaissance aircraft). Upon detonation, flash bombs emit an intense luminescence.
Israel’s internal security agency, Shin Bet, has categorized this as a “grave incident.”
According to a police communiqué, three suspects were apprehended following overnight operations. They will undergo joint interrogation by police and Shin Bet officials. The statement further indicated that the court has imposed a 30-day gag order on the investigation details and suspects’ identities.
Parliamentary spokesperson Amir Ohana alleged that anti-government demonstrators were culpable for the incident.
Former War Cabinet member and opposition leader Benny Gantz posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “If suspicions prove accurate and activists are found responsible for launching flash bombs at the Prime Minister’s residence, it must be unequivocally stated: this isn’t protest, this is terrorism.”
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has condemned the incident while cautioning about escalating violence in public gatherings. In a post on X, he disclosed discussions with the Shin Bet chief regarding the necessity of investigating the incident and advised swift legal action against the perpetrators.
