Another assassination attempt has been made on Republican presidential candidate and former US President Donald Trump.
According to a Reuters report today, Monday, this assassination attempt on Trump occurred while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Secret Service thwarted the attempt.
Secret Service agents fired shots after spotting an armed individual in a bush near the golf course. The gunman was only a few hundred yards away from where Trump was playing.
The suspect left behind an AK-47 style assault rifle, two bags, and other items at the scene before fleeing in a black Nissan vehicle. He was later arrested.
CNN, Fox News, and The New York Times have identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh (58). Citing unnamed law enforcement officials, it was reported that Routh is a resident of Hawaii.
After this incident, Trump said on social media, ‘Thank you to everyone who has been concerned and sent well wishes. It was certainly an eventful day!’
Trump also thanked the Secret Service and police for keeping him safe.
Just two months ago, there was another attempt to assassinate Trump at an election rally in Pennsylvania. On that occasion, a bullet grazed Trump’s right ear, causing a minor injury.
The United States presidential election is scheduled for November 5. In the election, Trump’s main Republican rival is Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party, who is currently the country’s Vice President.
