The United States has sent an anti-missile system to Israel amid tensions in the Middle East. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday that the US military has deployed their advanced anti-missile system THAAD in Israel, and it has been positioned in place.
Along with THAAD, several US military personnel are also reportedly being deployed to Israel.
THAAD, or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System, is a crucial component of the US military’s air defense system. It will strengthen Israel’s already powerful missile defense capabilities.
The full name of THAAD is ‘Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense’. It uses advanced radar technology and contains powerful missiles designed to destroy enemy missiles, rockets, or combat aircraft. THAAD can instantly destroy ballistic missiles within a range of 150 to 200 kilometers. It also has a very high success rate.
The US has deployed THAAD at a time when Israel is planning retaliation against Iran following Iran’s launch of over 180 missiles on October 1. Meanwhile, Iran has sent a letter to the UN’s nuclear watchdog regarding Israel’s threats to attack their nuclear facilities.
