Five Palestinian fighters have been killed in an Israeli forces operation in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem. The Palestinian fighters were hiding inside a mosque. The Israeli military provided this information on Thursday.
Israel began operations in the West Bank from dawn on Wednesday. Reuters eyewitnesses say the operation is still ongoing. Hundreds of Israeli troops are conducting operations in various areas of Tulkarem, Jenin, and the Jordan Valley using helicopters, drones, and armored vehicles.
Israel has said,
“One of the five Palestinian fighters killed in the Tulkarem mosque was Muhammad Jaber, known as Abu Suja. Jaber was the leader of a network of Palestinian fighters in the Nur Shams refugee camp near the city of Tulkarem.”
Reuters eyewitnesses have said,
“The network of telecommunications company Jawwal has been completely disrupted. Jawwal is one of the two main telecommunications companies in Gaza and the West Bank of Palestine.”
According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 12 Palestinians were killed in yesterday’s operation.
Today, bulldozers were seen on empty roads in Jenin. The sound of drones flying can be heard in the sky. Israeli troops have been seen in front of the city’s main hospital. They are searching ambulances.
Yesterday, the Israeli military blocked the entrance to the hospital with earthen mounds. Ambulances are being searched as they enter the hospital to ensure that Palestinian fighters cannot take shelter there.
The armed wing of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and various factions of Fatah issued separate statements yesterday. In these statements, they said,
“Their gunmen are carrying out bomb attacks on Israeli military vehicles in Jenin, Tulkarem, and the city of Fara in the Jordan Valley.”
On October 7 last year, the Palestinian liberation organization Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel. Israel claims that 1,200 people were killed in that attack. 250 people were taken hostage. In response, Israel started attacking Gaza from that day. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 40,000 people have been killed in the attack.
Violence has also increased in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, several thousand Palestinians have been arrested in operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since the start of the war in Gaza. More than 660 fighters and civilians have been killed.”
