The flood situation is gradually worsening in Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania due to continuous heavy rainfall.

Governments of these countries are making their utmost efforts to tackle the floods. Fire service personnel and volunteers are engaged in rescue operations. People from affected areas are being safely evacuated by helicopters.

Heavy rainfall is occurring in Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Austria due to the influence of a low-pressure system in the Mediterranean Sea. This has caused water levels to rise in various rivers across these countries, leading to flooding.

So far, five people have died in Romania and one in Poland due to the floods. Additionally, a fire service worker died during rescue operations in Austria.

In Dresden, Germany, a two-level flood alert has been declared as the flood situation deteriorates. The water level of the Elbe River in Dresden, the capital of Saxony state, is steadily rising. The Carola Bridge over the Elbe River has partially collapsed.

The flood situation is continuously worsening in three German states: Bavaria, Saxony, and Brandenburg.

In Austria, the flood situation has further deteriorated following heavy rainfall. Water has overflowed the banks of the Kamp River, a tributary of the Danube. Kamp River water has entered local villages.

In Vienna, walking and cycling paths have been inundated. Power supply has been temporarily disrupted in three districts of the country. Houses have been evacuated. The mayor of the capital city, Michael Ludwig, has assured,

‘Overall, we have the situation under control.’

Due to the flood situation, Lower Austria state has been declared a disaster area. A fire service worker died during rescue operations there. Many people have been evacuated from various places to safe locations. Several railway lines in Lower Austria state have been closed.

Austria’s Animal Protection Society says that the adverse weather conditions are creating a serious threat to migratory birds in Austria. Thousands of birds have already died due to lack of food and cold.

The most severe floods in three decades have occurred in Poland, Austria, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

Yesterday, Sunday, a dam broke due to the force of flood waters in southwestern Poland. Polish Railways has suspended train connections with the neighboring Czech Republic in the south of the country due to flooding. Inter-city trains from the Czech Republic to Poland have been cancelled until further notice.

An analysis by the German Weather Service has shown that such rainfall, which leads to sudden flooding, is now occurring approximately every 35 years instead of every 42 years on average.
