The United States has conducted new airstrikes targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen.
AFP reported this news on Sunday, citing the Pentagon.
The Pentagon claims to have targeted weapons storage facilities belonging to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. According to their statement, the Houthis had stored weapons there intended for attacking military and civilian vessels traveling through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
AFP, citing Yemen’s Al Masirah TV, reports that US and British forces conducted three rounds of airstrikes targeting the Al-Sabin district south of the capital Sanaa.
Last October, Palestinian armed group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages.
Since then, Israel has launched an all-out offensive in Gaza to eliminate Hamas. More than 43,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory attacks.
In September this year, Israel also launched a full-scale operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Since the start of the Gaza war, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been regularly attacking Israel-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis have stated that they are attacking Israeli vessels in protest of the ongoing genocide against Palestinians.
Due to these attacks on commercial and naval vessels in the Red Sea, the United States, United Kingdom, and several Western allies have conducted multiple strikes on Houthi targets since January. Sunday’s strike is the latest in this initiative.
Over the past year, the Houthis have conducted hundreds of attacks in the Red Sea, resulting in four deaths and the sinking of two ships. Crew members from a ship seized by the Houthis last November remain in their custody.
