Hamas’s armed wing has released a video of an American-Israeli being held hostage in Gaza.
The new video was released yesterday, Saturday. The exact time of its recording could not be verified.
The hostage shown in the video is named Edan Alexander. He was taken hostage in Gaza along with others on October 7 last year.
In the video, Alexander is seen speaking in English to newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump and in Hebrew to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Alexander has called on Israelis to put pressure on the government to secure the release of hostages.
Edan Alexander’s mother, Yael Alexander, spoke at a rally in Tel Aviv last night demanding the release of hostages. She said the video was distressing. The video revealed how terrible the condition of her son and other hostages is. It showed how much they are crying. They are still hoping to be rescued.
She stated that she has spoken with Netanyahu and told him he must keep his promise. He must free the hostages and bring back all of them, including her son.
Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying the Prime Minister has committed that Israel will take all possible steps to bring back the hostages. Netanyahu described the video release as a “cruel psychological warfare”.
Meanwhile, Sean Savett, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, called the video a “brutal reminder of terrorism”. He stated that if Hamas agrees to release the hostages, the Gaza war would end immediately, and the suffering of Gaza residents would cease.
On October 7 last year, Hamas, a Palestinian liberation armed organization, attacked southern Israel. According to Israeli government statistics, 1,207 people were killed in this attack. Hamas took 251 people hostage to Gaza. Currently, 97 hostages remain in Gaza. The deaths of 34 of these have been confirmed, though their bodies remain in Gaza.
Israel has been conducting indiscriminate attacks on Gaza since October 7 last year. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 44,382 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli offensive.
