“India’s investigative agency CBI has started polygraph tests on six suspects in the rape and murder case of a doctor in Kolkata! Last week, a female doctor named Moumita was raped and murdered at R.G. Kar Hospital in Kolkata when she went to rest after completing her internship. This incident sent shockwaves across India. According to a report by Indian media NDTV, on Saturday (August 24), the tests began on the accused, including former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh, at the CBI headquarters located in the CGO complex in Kolkata.

A special team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi has come to Kolkata for these tests.

The main accused in this rape and murder case, Sanjay Roy, will be tested in prison. He is still being held in jail. On the other hand, the tests on the accused, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, will be conducted at the CBI office.

Last Friday, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Sealdah granted permission for these tests on seven individuals. Sandip Roy has given his consent for this test.

However, the CBI has stated that these tests will not be conducted simultaneously as they are time-consuming. They will be done one by one.

The accused have been under CBI scrutiny from the beginning of this rape and murder case. The CBI wants to verify if what the suspects told the detectives is true, which is why these tests are being conducted.

Although the evidence from these tests is not admissible in court, they are being done in the interest of the investigation.

Consent from the accused is required before such tests.

Polygraphs are typically used for interrogation. They help determine if the accused are lying or not.

The rape and murder case of the female doctor Moumita has caused uproar in Kolkata and across India from the beginning. It has spread worldwide. Bangladesh also strongly condemned this incident and organized protest rallies.”
