There have been retaliatory attacks between the Lebanese Hezbollah group and Israeli forces. In such circumstances, a 48-hour state of emergency has been declared in Israel.
Today, August 25, Sunday, Hezbollah stated in a statement:
‘They launched an attack on Israeli territory to avenge the killing of the organization’s commander Fuad Shok late last month. They fired a large number of missiles toward Israel. This completed the ‘first phase’ of the attack.’
The statement further said that Hezbollah fired more than 320 rockets targeting 11 Israeli military bases and barracks. Among these are four military installations in the occupied Golan Heights, including the Meron base.
Earlier in the morning, Israel launched a massive attack on southern Lebanon. Israel says:
‘They launched this attack after receiving advance warning of Hezbollah’s attack!’
Zeina Khodr, Al Jazeera’s journalist from Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, says:
‘Most of Israel’s attacks were aimed at border areas.’
She further says:
‘The attacks occurred within a maximum of five kilometers of the 120-kilometer border.’
Israeli media reported that the Israeli Defense Ministry has declared a state of emergency in Israel for the next 48 hours.
Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport has been closed. Various media outlets have reported: ‘People have been injured in northern Israel due to Hezbollah’s attacks. In addition, bomb shelters have been opened in various cities in Israel.’
